Theatre Arts ....

The Theatre Arts program is designed to provide academic knowledge and practical technical training in all aspects of theatre arts.  The curriculum provides the essential lower-division courses necessary for transfer to similar programs at four-year institutions, as well as assisting students towards employment in the professional and community theatre.  Areas of emphasis include acting, musical theatre, and technical (costume design, theatre make-up, scene design, stage lighting, and sound design).

Courses range from `Fundamentals of Introduction to Narrative Theory’ and `Introduction to the Theater’ to `Advanced Design’ and `Musical Theatre Performance.’

The Theatre Arts Department at Grossmont College is renowned for its critically acclaimed productions at the campus Stagehouse Theatre, providing students a professional venue to practice their craft both on and behind the stage.

Careers in the theatre are remarkably diverse and include such professions as technicians (lighting, sound, special effects, etc.), set and costume design, stage/production manager, house manager, and marketing. Internships are encouraged, and everyone on the Theatre Department staff at Grossmont College has a wealth of professional experience.

Community theatres vary widely in size, composition, resources and offerings, but Grossmont College’s Theatre Arts Department will help establish a sturdy foundation for a future in this arena.
